Support St. John Detroit/TeamHealth Emergency Physician Strike

"Here’s the bottom line.  Private Equity funds like Blackstone are using companies like TeamHealth to buy up Emergency Room Management and Services all over the country.  Then, in places like California and North Carolina – they are accused of reducing staff, slashing costs and jacking up rates and billing on the most vulnerable among us in the name of increasing profits.  Now they’re coming after Ascenion St. John – but the physicians and PA’s are fighting back.  And are even ready to go on strike – if it means a safer, more efficient Emergency room that helps their patients."

Both Drs. Mitchell Louis Judge Li, emergency physician and founder of Take Medicine Back, and Michelle Wiener, emergency physician and union leader at at St John Moross were featured in a recent video by More Perfect Union in their series "Jobs That Got Worse" 

Dr. Li was a resident physician, and Dr. Wiener was a new attending physician in 2014 when the previously-independent physician group, Emergency Medicine Specialists sold to TeamHealth in 2014, and was subsequently acquired by the private equity firm Blackstone. While Dr. Li eventually founded Take Medicine Back, Dr. Wiener organized a union on the ground - which has now announced intention to strike.
